Dressing 18th century Claire is quite involved. After arriving at Castle Leoch underdressed, bedraggled, exhausted in episode 102, Claire tends to Jamie then sleeps the rest of the day.
Enter Mrs. Fitz. She unceremoniously rouses Claire to get her presentable for meeting Himself, Colum MacKenzie, Laird of Clan MacKenzie.
It began something like this….
The giggles. Her sad sack face at Mrs. Fitz taking away her food. The sweetest three year old pout ever.
The dressing ritual, but first undressing is first (no nude shots will be shown here). The 20th century undergarments cause a bit of reaction from Mrs. Fitz.
Mrs. Fitz asks what type of corset that is. A brassiere, Claire. The Fitz face. From France Claire explains. Mrs. Fitz accepts that as truth. (Ye ken the French are known for odd clothing).
According to Terry Dresbach, this scene was filmed start to finished and edited down. It took about 20 minutes to get Cait/Claire dressed. It was very common to have a dresser versus doing it oneself daily.
Getting the corset very tight.
I am tired thinking of this process!
I loved the expression on Claire’s face when Mrs. Fitz took away the broth after only a few spoonfuls. Reminded me of “Oliver.”
Did you see the video where Diana talked about the lack of underwear? Too funny. If I had to lift all that then pull down panties, I’d think twice about wearing them, too.

No way underwear is needed — agreed. “May I have a thin wafer sir?@

I almost expected Claire to reach out and say, “More, please.” 🙂

We haven’t seen Claire eat very often, but I want to think Mrs. Fitz is looking out for her. I’d love to know what she packed in the lunch basket Claire shared with Jamie in the stable.
