In this IGN exclusive clip, Laoghaire MacKenzie is not pleased to learn that Jamie Fraser has married Claire Beauchamp while away from Castle Leoch.
If you remember, after he took a beating for the teen Laoghaire, he was seen kissing her quite industriously in the alcove. As he would say, not being a monk. (I contend his biggest mistake ever in the whole of the series because spoilers.)
After Jamie stopped paying her attention, Laoghaire asked healer Claire for a “wish” to get Jamie to care for her, to love her. She knew but refused to see Jamie did not love her or care for her romantically.
Laoghaire confronts Jamie seeking answers as to why he married Claire. He basically tells her it is a long story, he has no time to fully explain now, and it was Dougal’s plan.
This is SO infuriating to me that he did not say because though it was complicated and arranged by Dougal, that he agreed because he wanted her, loved her.
Will Laoghaire react and exact some revenge? Will she continue to want Jamie for herself?
Only time will tell…. and episodes.

Hard to say why Jamie couldn’t be honest with Laoghaire. Tell her
although the marriage was arranged to protect Claire from Black Jack,
he loves her and is devoted to her. But then the story would change completely. Not where Diana Gabaldon would end up taking the characters and us…her readers.

Agreed. Still very annoying.

Ehhh, I’m fine with it. He’s telling the truth…it wasn’t his plan, and it was Dougal’s arrangement. But anything more is really none of her business. We know all about her, but he doesn’t (yet). 🙂

Nope he does not know her at all.

I would love to have seen the outrage on Leoghaire’s face when Jamie came in to save Claire, threatened to kill anyone who stood in his way, and he whisked her away. Plus I remember in the book, Leoghaire was in trouble because of her overtly flirting with others and
there was no way her father would let her marry a non-McKenzie with no money or land and an outlaw. Just to see her face in the courtroom would have meant so much, the little manipulative vixen–foiled!!

Oh yes but he was not meant to know she was part of things.

But Jamie did say she left the “ill wish” with such hate and anger in his voice, so in the show it could be different.

Yes he knew it was her for that part

And she needs to be able to keep up her victim he loves me mentality

Jamie can’t tell Laoghaire that he loves Claire because he hasn’t told Claire that he loves her… his heart is for his wife and she must know that first before others especially given the circumstances of the marriage…and he needs to know that she loves him…
