The Scottish Prisoner Podcast Series
Chapters 1 and 2
Week 1
This is the kickoff episode for The Scottish Prisoner read-a-long. In “April Fools 1760,” we meet up with Jamie, aka MacKenzie the groom, three years after arriving at Helwater in the Lake District of England. He’s spending his parole post Ardsmuir prison here. The deal was arranged by Lord John Grey, the prison’s Governor who oversaw the final years of the prison and the dispatch of the prisoners. The timeline of TSP fits about midway through the Voyager tale.
Jamie is one month from his 39th birthday. It’s been fourteen years since he sent Claire back to the future on the eve of the Culloden battle. He’s been a fugitive, a prisoner, and now a groom until his parole is lifted. At least at for now at Helwater, he can watch his biological son by the late Geneva Dunsany grow.
Lord John Grey is in London at his brother Harold, The Duke of Pardloe’s home. There’s a pressing military matter John has trusted to handle. He’s including Hal (Harold) in the process. We learn about John and Hal and John’s relationship and gain some insight into Hal’s immediate family.
Due to this military problem, John must go to Helwater and ask for Jamie’s help in translating a document.
It will certainly get most interesting from here, as John and Jamie are not on the best of terms.
