To Helwater and Back Voyager Week 5

Listen to podcast!

In this week’s Voyager read-along that includes chapters 14-17, many changes are afoot, along with a grand misadventure. Ardsmuir Prison has been shut down. The Highlander men have been sent to the colonies for a period of indenture, all of them, except for Jamie Fraser. Only King George can sign a transport decree or a release for Jamie, neither of which he is willing to do. Major John Grey finds a suitable country location in which Jamie can live and fulfill his bond to the Crown.

An insight to Jamie’s 8.5 years at Helwater provides us with not only valuable detail, but show us a redemption of friendship and of purpose yet again for Jamie, as Alex MacKenzie Helwater groom.

Outlander Science Club is by Desirre Andrews, CPM, RM this week on the topic of Postpartum Hemorrhage and Prevention.

I Am Who I Am Voyager Read-Along Week 4

Through the cautious respect of weekly meals, a friendship is made between John Grey and Jamie Fraser. Through the patience of a long game the Governor got the information he sought.  Like the Torremolinos Gambit, John Grey’s final move to get Jamie to confess why he escaped, worked. He finally won that battle, but, Jamie had his own game in play, in that he remembered. Through reclaiming himself through a sacrificial act, Jamie Fraser found freedom within.

John is who he is. Jamie is who he is. One is born to it. The other had to grow into it.

With Jamie found in history, Claire, Roger, and Briana just might be able to figure out where he went after.

Outlander Science Club is by Karen Daugherty, MD on the topic of La Grippe.

He Is Captive Voyager Read-Along Week 3

This week 3 installment of the Voyager podcast read-along, “He Is Captive”, finds Jamie Fraser at Ardsmuir prison, because he indeed was The Dunbonnet. The painstaking research by Claire, Roger Mac, and Brianna has paid off. Claire, alone, past midnight in the study goes through one more prison role, and there he is. She is in such disbelief she closes her eyes and opens them again to make sure the entry is real. It’s a moment to be cherished as she summons his image and what could have happened on the day he entered the prison. We also are reintroduced to John Grey taking over as Governor of this remote prison nearly two years after Jamie’s arrival there.

Chapters 7-9 are foundational to setting the tone, richness of character development, and for moving the story forward for what is to come later.

The Outlander Science Club segment is brought to you by Karen Daugherty. She discusses the importance of Vitamin C in the 18th century diet as primary prevention of scurvy. It’s a fascinating listen.
